New Soft Minimalist Capsule Hotel Soft-Launches in Singapore Despite COVID-19 Limbo–KINN Capsule Hotel
SINGAPORE, 1 April 2021—KINN Capsule Hotel has soft-launched at the heritage-rich South Bridge Road in central Singapore on 1 April 2021. The independent boutique hotel bridges the gap between the privacy and quality of boutique hotels, and the social experience and affordability of hostels. Although Singapore’s hospitality industry has partially recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic with the support of locals, capsule hotels and hostels are still in limbo. As a result, KINN was delayed for more than a year, and can only accept non-leisure bookings as per safety management regulations until further notice.
Peaceful Rest
Visitors are immersed in a calming sensory experience upon entry of the contrastingly raw and rigid Brutalist building. KINN’s soft minimalistic interior was designed by local award-winning creative studio Hjgher with sleek hyper-futuristic lines set against the earthy colours and textures of our present time. The focus on natural tones is taken very literally. A 3-storey tall artificial Ficus tree that reaches the skylight serves as a centrepiece that evokes serenity; and a warm scent of flowers blooming in the Nordic woods–formulated by some of the world’s leading perfumers from France and Singapore–lingers in the air.
The hotel houses 72 capsules, which are divided into 7 mixed and female-only rooms. The capsules are engineered with double-panelled wood for a safe, comfortable, and calming experience while facilitating sound insulation and airflow for temperature control. Every capsule comes with a 5-star hotel grade super single-size mattress, blackout roller blinds, USB charging ports, and more. For security, KINN has a mobile app (in beta) that gives guests the option to access their rooms and lockers using KINN’s proprietary digital key technology.
Meaningful Connections
Travelling is not only about exploring places. It is also about learning about people and cultures. Hence, the KINN experience is designed to connect guests with fellow guests and the local community. KINN’s multi-purpose spaces play host to regular events, such as workshops, organised with KINN’s partners from Singapore’s creative scene, although it is currently on hold for safety management against the pandemic. This serves a dual function of: 1) supporting travellers in their journey of connecting with themselves and like-minded people, and 2) showcasing the local creative scene to explorers of the world.
