KINN Champions Holistic Wellness, Rolls Out Series of Inaugural Initiatives to Destigmatise and Normalise Men’s Mental Wellness Discussions

SINGAPORE, 16 JULY 2024 – KINN Hospitality Concepts (KINN), renowned for its focus on holistic wellness across physical, mental, and social realms, is elevating its commitment to inclusivity by casting a spotlight on men’s mental wellness.

From a young age, boys are taught to value “strength”—whether physically or emotionally. The endorsement of such stereotypical masculinity norms has often led to the belief that men are less likely to suffer from mental health issues because they are perceived as “stronger.” However, research indicates that men are equally susceptible to these issues but are less likely to acknowledge and report symptoms of depression.

This lack of discussion is particularly prevalent in Asian cultures, where traditional beliefs and mindsets place high value on pride, especially within families. Mental illness is often perceived as a sign of weakness. A recent report by CNA revealed that 67% of suicide cases in 2022 were men, attributed to societal expectations and stigma surrounding mental health.

To address men’s mental wellness, KINN is lending its voice and support through a series of engagements and activities designed to foster open conversations about the importance of mental well-being.

Founded in 2021 by Chayadi Karim, KINN Hospitality Concepts was envisioned as a sanctuary where one nurtures the body, mind, and soul within a safe environment. Chayadi shares, “In our efforts to destigmatise men’s mental health, we are committed to creating environments that support holistic wellness. By highlighting this critical issue, we aim to foster a community where mental well-being is openly discussed and actively supported.”

Longstanding Partnership with Safe Space™, Laying The Groundwork to Normalise Wellness Conversations

In 2022, KINN took a proactive step by establishing a longstanding partnership with Safe Space™, demonstrating their commitment to action. This collaboration offers comprehensive therapy sessions to guests from diverse backgrounds, creating an encouraging environment where they can share their concerns without shame or worry. This initiative has laid a strong foundation for normalising inclusive therapy practices and promoting mental well-being.

As KINN raises awareness about the importance of men’s mental wellness, this partnership further aids male guests by fostering a judgement-free and welcoming atmosphere.

KINN has also partnered with two other brands, andSons and ReThink Good (RTG), solidifying its efforts in providing more mental wellness support for men.

With locally available men-focused health services being scarce, andSons, a digital health platform, is stepping in to offer easy access to doctor consultations and health supplements specifically curated for them. Together, KINN and andSons aim to provide comprehensive mental health care and awareness initiatives tailored to men’s unique needs, bridging the gap in accessible health services and fostering a community of well-being.

Joanna Low, Brand Marketing Manager of ORA Group shared, “We are thrilled to partner with KINN on this important initiative aimed at promoting men’s wellness and breaking down the barriers of stigma surrounding hard-to-broach topics. This collaboration perfectly aligns with andSons’ ethos of encouraging men to take better care of themselves and supporting the vision of men’s health as it should be,”

KINN is also collaborating closely with ReThink Good (RTG), a local company dedicated to rethinking circularity in consumer products and promoting conscious consumer choices. RTG’s approach includes a series of mindfulness workshops that utilise repurposed and sustainable materials. One such workshop focuses on mindfulness practices using eco-friendly options like cork bookbinding and plantable seed papers. Instead of purchasing new yearly journals, participants are encouraged to bind their own journals using recycled materials. They also have the opportunity to spend quiet time journaling on plantable seed papers, detailing positive visions and affirmations of themselves, while creating a photo album of beautiful memories through RTG’s cork bookbinding sessions.

By empowering men to actively prioritise their mental health, the hotel reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of care that transcends traditional physical hospitality, redefining getaways with a focus on holistic wellness.
